General Information

About Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is situated in south-central Africa, between the Limpopo and the mighty Zambezi. It is bordered by South Africa to the south, Botswana to the southwest, Zambia to the northwest and Mozambique to the east. Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa known for its dramatic landscape and diverse wildlife, much of it within parks, reserves and safari areas. The country has a very good location spot. It is easily accessible from different parts of the world.

Culture and Religion

The people are extremely friendly and helpful. They will try to help you in any way possible, no matter when you contact them. Zimbabwe has three main official languages: English, Shona and Ndebele. Zimbabwe’s literacy rate is at 92% – the highest in Africa.

Zimbabwe is a multicultural society although Christianity is the predominant religion (84%).

About Victoria Falls

Welcome to the great Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the world and a place where wilderness, adventure and culture unite around one stunning spectacle. Incredible natural beauty, and remarkable wildlife viewing combine to awe visitors to this UNESCO World Heritage Site on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia. On the Zambezi River, Victoria Falls make a thundering 108m drop into narrow Batoka Gorge, where there’s white-water rafting and bungee-jumping. At 1.7km wide, it is the largest curtain of falling water in the world, and is often referred to as “Mosi-oa-Tunya” or the Smoke that Thunders.

Downstream are Matusadona and Mana Pools national parks, home to hippos, rhinos and birdlife. The country has rich wildlife filled with different animals, such as rhinoceros, buffalos, lions, zebras, etc. So wildlife lovers can see every wild animal in Africa in Zimbabwe.

Is it safe to walk in Victoria Falls Town?

Yes. The Victoria Falls Tourism Police unit are available to assist, advise and guide,

Climate

The country can be divided into three (3) broad climatic regions. The Central plateau, covering most of the country, is generally temperate, whilst low lying areas, such as the Zambezi Valley, are significantly warmer and drier with hot summers. The Eastern Highlands are cooler in climate with much higher year-round rainfall.

Summer rains dominate seasons, usually lasting from November through April. Rainfall frequently occurs in brief but heavy afternoon downpours and dramatic thunderstorms. Daytime temperatures can range from 25〬C to the high 30s, even 40s in low-lying areas.

Winter, between May and August, brings slightly lower average daytime temperatures, with little if any rain. Night time temperatures can drop below freezing, especially in the west of the country, something the traveller should remember. Before the onset of the rains, during September and October, hot dry daytime conditions dominate.

Category ‘B’, Visitors from the countries listed below *Note* We recommend that you do NOT pre-apply online via Zimbabwe evisa website if you are a category B National. The e-visa system is designed for Category C nationals, who HAVE to pre-apply. You do NOT save yourself any time on arrival, in fact it can cost you more time as they need to verify your application. Applying online requires registering an account on the website and then supplying a whole lot of information that you do not need when you are category B. Also E-visa applications often go missing. Same thing applies to overseas companies offering visa services at exorbitant costs. Get your visa on arrival with minimal fuss.
